ASIA
CEO AWARDS MAKE STRONG CASE FOR RP
In
the information age, proponents of Pinoy talent in the business arena
are finding out that the best way to promote the country to global firm
is presenting them hard-nosed evidence and case studies of local
excellence.
Because Google and similar web based technologies have allowed anyone
and everyone to become his own business analyst, obvious self promotion
no longer works. Leaders of the BPO sector including the Business
Processing Association of the Philippines(BPAP) and communities of
multinational and leading Philippine firms found this out as they were
priming the growth of the Information Technology and Communications
Technology (ICT) sector dominated by BPOs earlier in the decade,
according to Richard Mills, head of Chalre Associates. Chalre is
focused on recruiting CEOs and other top talents for multinationals in
Asia.
The International ICT Awards organized by BPAP and Canadian Chamber of
Commerce in the Philippines, then headed by Mills, provided credible
evidence of outstanding performance among BPOs in the Philippines.
Today the ICT sector leads the growth of the Philippine economy and the
ICT Awards have collectively become an institution in the BPO landscape.
Through
the Asia CEO Forum, the largest monthly gathering in the country of top
executives of leading multinational and Philippine corporations, Mills
and the other business leaders want to repeat history by coming up with
a new set of awards for Philippine business in general. The Asia CEO
Awards identifies and recognizes outstanding leadership of individuals
and organizations that have contributed toward making the Philippines a
more attractive global business destination.
On
the Nov. 11 Asia CEO Awards night, individuals and organizations will
be recognized in eight categories. These categories include the
Executive Leadership Team of the Year, Entrepreneurial Leadership Team
of the Year; Non-profit Leadership Team of the Year; Global Filipino
Executive of the Year; HR Leadership Team of the Year; Finance
Leadership Team of the Year; Technology Leadership Team of the Year;
and Expatriate Executive of the Year. The latter is an award being
sponsored by global real state services firm Jones Lang LaSalle
Leechiu.
Other companies sponsoring the awards are global accounting firm KPMG and software solutions provider Northgate Arinso.
Members
of the Judging Committee will accept nominations only up to Oct. 22.
Members include economist Dr. Bernie Villegas former president of the
American Chamber of Commerce Don Felbaum, president of the Korean
Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines Edward Chang, former president
of the Asian Institute of Management Francis Estrada, founder and
executive director of the European Chamber of Commerce of the
Philippines Henry Schumacher, vice president of the Japanese Chmaber of
Commerce and Industry Nobuo Fujii and governor of the Canadian Chamber
of Commerce Richard Mills.
Mills notes that the managers in the
Asia region are currently open-minded about where they can setup
businesses in the region. "The stampede for China and India seems to
have subsided. Other countries in Asia that were once very attractive
to global firms have experience political and economic difficulties. We
have a narrow window of time to make a strong case for Philippines."
Fernando
Camus, chair of Jones Lang LaSalle Leechiu, which services the real
state needs of many multinational businesses locating to the
Philippines, points out that the English communication skills of the
Filipino managers and employees and their interpersonal relations are
among the highest attractions of the country. Multinationals are also
attracted to the large population of the Philippines, which represents
a sizable potential market for these firms that no longer find growth
prospects in the US and Europe.
Nominations of deserving companies and teams need not be members of the Asia CEO Forum. Interested parties may visit
