is "Global Filipino Executive of the Year"
Citing
outstanding commercial achievements, judges from local and foreign
business communities recently chose Philippine Long Distance Telephone
Co. (PLDT) Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan as the “Global Filipino
Executive of the Year” at the first Asia CEO Awards held in Makati City.
The Global Filipino Executive of the Year Award is given to the most
accomplished Filipino executive who has excelled locally or outside the
Philippines.
Organized
with the help of the local and foreign business communities to promote
the Philippines worldwide, the Asia CEO Awards recognizes individuals
and teams who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and achieved
excellent results in their businesses while benefiting the community in
general.
Pangilinan
was chosen for his management achievements which took the PLDT Group
into new levels of growth, achievement and recognition in addition to
creating innovative products and services as well as being involved in
corporate social initiatives.
“Aside
from our involvement in PLDT, we’ve invested great efforts in building
up the infrastructure businesses under Metro Pacific Investment Corp.
to help the Philippines acquire the vital infrastructure that it needs
to become more prosperous in the next few years,” the PLDT Chairman
noted.
Pangilinan founded First Pacific Co. Ltd. in 1981 in Hong
Kong and served as its Managing Director until 1999. He was appointed
as Executive Chairman until June 2003, when he was named CEO and
Managing Director. Within the First Pacific Group, he holds the
positions of President Commissioner of P.T. Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk,
the largest food company in Indonesia.
He
was named Chairman of PLDT after serving as its President and CEO until
February 2004. He also serves as Chairman of Maynilad Water Services,
Inc., Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, Medical Doctors, Inc., Metro
Pacific Investments Corporation, Landco Pacific Corporation, Pilipino
Telephone Corporation, and Smart Communications, Inc.
The
eight categories of the Asia CEO Awards were: KPMG Executive Leadership
Team of the Year, Entrepreneurial Leadership Team of the Year,
Non-Profit Leadership Team of the Year, Global Filipino Executive of
the Year, Jones Lang LaSalle Leechiu Expatriate Executive of the Year,
NorthgateArinso HR Leadership Team of the Year, Finance Leadership Team
of the Year, and Technology Leadership Team of the Year.
